ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday rejected an appeal that challenged Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) spokesperson’s candidature f
rom his home constituency of NA-67, Jhelum.
Justice Azmat Saeed presided over a two-member benc
h today and rejected the petition filed by Pakistan Justice and Democratic Party (PJDP) member Syed Fakhar Haider who, in the petition, challenged the approval of Fawad’s nomination papers.
The judge had observed that instead of filing a new petition against Fawad the petitioner should have challenged the approval of nomination papers.
Last month, PTI leader’s nomination papers were rejected by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and Fawad had challenged the a
ppellate tribunal’s decision in Lahore High Court (LHC).
LHC accepted Chaudhry’s plea and allowed him to contest upcoming General Elections f
rom his home constitu
ency.
Previously, the Fawad’s papers were rejected during a petition hearing, which was filed by PJDP’s Fakhar Abbas Kazmi against returning
officer (RO) for accepting Chaudhry’s nomination papers.
In that petition, Kazmi had objected saying that Fawad had not paid agriculture tax on his land.
